Programme Details

INTRODUCTION

This programme is designed to train and expose students to the critical marketing concepts and strategies. It will also equip them with a broad knowledge of marketing through real case studies and networking with the industries. Graduates will be able to become marketing professionals and are marketable in both the domestic and global businesses.

RECOGNITION
This programme has obtained recognition by the Chartered Institute of Marketing (UK). Graduates will only be required to take two out of ten courses required by the CIM to be awarded with the CIM Professional Post Graduate Certificate. This will open up more job opportunities for graduates to join international organizations.

Three years (full time)

STUDENT INTAKE
Admission of students is twice a year. Applications may be made:
1. Through the Unit Pusat Universiti (UPU) – June
2. Direct to Universiti Teknologi MARA – November

ASSESSMENT
Candidates are continuously assessed based on tests, assignments, term papers, case studies, class participation and final examination.

Course Outline

Year 1 
(Semester 1 and 2)

The first year provides a foundation in marketing related disciplines necessary for the understanding of the more focused marketing subjects studied in the second and final year.

Students from a wide variety of educational backgrounds are all brought up to a common standard during the first two semesters. This enables us to accept students without specific subject pre–requirements.

In the first–year, students will study fourteen courses encompassing a range of subjects fundamental to the students understanding of marketing. These subjects cover business law, economics, financial accounting, financial management, principles and practice of marketing, principles and practice of management, quantitative business analysis and introduction to operations management or introduction to international business.

Students will also develop a range of personal skills vital for success in any business and marketing career. Students will learn essential aspects of information technology in business and develop their computing skills. Students will also have the opportunity to study a foreign language at the beginner and intermediate levels.

Year 2
(Semester 3 and 4)

In the second year, students will focus their studies more explicitly on marketing courses and major areas, developing and deepening their understanding of the subjects from which they choose to specialize, if wish to do so. Semester three courses examine understanding consumer, marketing research, product management, concepts and practice of retailing, introduction to human resource management and international business.

Semester four courses examine managerial economics, channels management, marketing communication, services marketing, business marketing, sales management and others. Students will also continue the study of a language and religious studies.

Final Year
(Semester 5 and 6)

In the fifth semester students will study seven courses encompassing a range of subjects for the students’ understanding of marketing. These subjects cover strategic management, global marketing, strategic marketing management, issues in marketing, relationship marketing, global retailing, environmental marketing and others.

On completion of semester five, students will undertake a 12–week industrial attachment in an organization related to the area of marketing. Students are required to produce a project paper at the end of the attachment period.

Career Opportunities

Due to the well–designed programme structure, graduates will be highly demanded in marketing oriented organizations both in the government and public sectors, locally and internationally.

Admission Requirements

Minimum qualification for STPM candidates:
  1. Passed SPM or its equivalent with credits in English, Mathematics and Bahasa Melayu/Malaysia.
  2. STPM, passed in General Paper and a pass in two (2) other subjects with a CGPA of 2.67 including Accountancy/Economics/Business.
  3. Have taken the MUET.

 

SPECIAL QUALIFICATION
  1. Passed Diploma from UiTM or other institutions recognized as its equivalent by the government with a minimum CGPA of 2.60.  Candidates who do not comply to the requirement can still be considered for admission if they possess a least two (2) years of working experience.
  2. Have taken the MUET.
  3. Credits in Bahasa Melayu/Bahasa Malaysia.
